Chapter I · The person

A thirty-year journey across five countries.

From a hostel in Adelaide to FT50 publications and the Academy of Management — and the practice of teaching, researching, and writing about what shapes us, in the open.

An introduction, briefly

Be honest, or don't bother.

I'm a researcher and educator working on the human side of work — psychosocial safety, reflexivity, leadership, and how teaching changes the people we ask to learn.

The story below — the hostel, the five countries, the awards and the long quiet stretches in between — is the long version. The short version is what I tell students on day one: pay attention to the environment you're standing in. It is shaping you, whether or not you've noticed.
